30 Years of Continuing the Legacy - Ex Prisoners of War Memorial Service

Mount Lawley Senior High School was honoured to hold its 30th Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial Service at Kings Park on Friday 8 May, continuing a proud tradition that began in 1997.

For three decades, our school has hosted this important annual service to honour the service and sacrifice of prisoners of war, ensuring their stories and legacy continue to be remembered by future generations.

We were privileged to welcome special guests including the Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency the Hon. Chris Dawson AC APM, the Hon. Pierre Yang MLC representing the Premier, the Hon. Roger Cook MLA, Hon. Paul Papalia CSC MLA, Minister for Defence Industries and Veterans, Hon. Stephen Price MLA, Speaker of the House, the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Perth Bruce Reynolds, and Mr Frank Paolino MLA, Member for Mount Lawley.

A total of 115 Mount Lawley students attended, including Councillors, Prefects, the School Choir and Concert Band. Students led and supported the ceremony with great maturity and respect, demonstrating the strong values of remembrance and service that define our school community.

Our Music students performed the Last Post and Rouse, while the Choir and Concert Band provided moving musical tributes throughout the service.

Following the ceremony, students had the opportunity to meet families and guests, continuing the spirit of connection and community that has long been at the heart of this special event.

Lest we forget.
