English

Students develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and critical thinking through the study of language, literature and literacy. English encourages creativity, communication and analytical thinking.

Across Years 7-12, students build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing. They analyse and create imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, develop vocabulary and grammar, explore ideas and perspectives, and learn to express their thinking clearly for different audiences and purposes. The curriculum aims to help students become thoughtful, capable and informed communicators who can participate successfully in school, further study, work and community life.

Students in Years 7–9 will also participate in a Library Reading program once a fortnight during English class time, with the explicit aim of improving their reading and writing skills through direct exposure to a wide variety of written texts.
